Money Scale box    - wood

Small fruitwood scale box with impressed decoration on lid, hook catch on lid and wire hinges, the inside of the box has a well for the scale, a circular well for weights and a covered well for grain weights. The scale beam is steel and has swan neck terminals 76mm. long. The box contains a James I Unite weight (W788). Box 93x47 mm. – Early 17th century

The scale beam is brass and has swan neck terminals 95mm. long (probably 19th cent.). Box 130x63 mm. - Mid 17th century

Very good brass fittings

Fruitwood scale box with impressed decoration on lid, 2 hooks on lid.  Paper label of the maker J Picard Wood Street London . The inside of the box has a well for the scale & 2 compartments for weights, scale beam steel with swan neck terminals 120mm. long, Box 142x49mm. We have not traced the maker but style dates from about 1730.

Very finely made mahogany box with an inlaid string decoration, containing scale with steel beam with swan neck terminals (128mm.), Square knobbed weights 8 weights with 10 positions. Weights are die struck all with a lion passant at right – SHILL 36, SHILL 27, SHILL18, S D 13 * 6,  S D 4 * 6, A GUINEA, A * ½ GUINEA & A * ¼ GUINEA  WITH an additional non matching  ½ guinea (W2123G modified) There is a compartment in the lid containing grain weights with sliding lid. Box 145x66 mm.  about 1730-50. We have not seen this style of  weights  before – very attractive item

Mahogany scale box with 2 hearts carved on lid, a paper label of the maker Mercy Meymott Late Read London, in ink Griffin Brass ½.  The inside of the box has a section for the scale & 2 compartments for weights (none present), scale beam steel with swan neck terminals 130mm. long, Box 145x67mm. c. 1780 cloth in base decorated with a flower.
