Scales

The top of the box is nicely decorated with pokerwork floral design however the rounded ends of the box have been roughly bevelled. A rather sad relic but genuinely old and worthy of restoration

A late 17th century English oak wood oval box with an elaborate brass catch;  the wire hinges are broken and it contains no scale but includes 2 apothecary weights a ¼ ounce trade weight and a Georgian ½ guinea weight. 135x50mm.

There are three square knobbed weights 1 DOBLON 27.01gm. , ½ DOBLON 13.55gm. and 5 DUROS 8.46gm. with 3 holes there is a brass lidded section for grain weights containing one grain weight

Germany  scale box and weights for the Spanish market, Unfortunately not complete. The scale is 18th century with Nuremburg box terminals although rather small for the space in the box and may be replaced. Box darkly stained wooden box with owners script label of mid 19th century date. Interesting box

Early 19th century Milanese scale box with weights

Box includes 14 weights France 2 Louis & Louis,  Genoa 96 & 48 Lire, Parma Doppia, Savoy Doppia, Spain 8, 4 & 2 Escudos, Milan under Austria Sovrano & half, Rome Doppia and half and a Kingdom 40 Lire. All uniface

Italy, A typical Italian (Milanese) scale box with weights, The box is leather coated card with chamois interior. There is a name Borselli Arcipr.ie  - the owners stamp Archpriest Boselli. The scale is brass (including the bar). 14 weights also 5 Grani weighs under the scale pan Box, scale & weights about 1820. Box 185x90mm. Used but overall good condition.

Iran, A small diamond or carat scale with hemi-spherical pans of very fine work contained in a brass box. There is a Persian inscription which translates as “O my God, on the highest ground of Goodness, judge me!”  dated 1280 AH = 1863AD. Fine iron beam 90mm. Box105x50mm. and22mm. high

Folding Scales

An equal arm folding pan & plate type. in a wide mahogany box. 135mm. long, 35mm. wide Overall good working condition, complete with 5 matching weights all incuse for Guinea, ½ guinea, 7s , Sovereign and ½ sovereign, all incuse ctm. lion. There is no label. Dates from about 1820

This dates from after the introduction of the Sovereign in 1816.  The scale arm is iron, other fittings brass.  The catch is also missing.. Although not complete very interesting.

Folding equal arm pan & plate Balance, in a wide mahogany box 170x39mm.  3 knobbed weights Guinea 5 8 ctm. lion, Sovereign 20 ctm lion  and ½ Sovereign 10 ctm Good working condition, but no label and compartments enlarged.
