TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE MAILBID 44 TOKENS
General terms: All items are guaranteed genuine as described. Prices realised are only sent to bidders. In the case of tied bids (identical bids) the first one received is the winner.
This is a Postal auction: Closing date is 10 JUNE 2008 closing at 12 noon British Summer Time. Written bids must be received no later than this date by post /email at SIMMONS GALLERY, PO BOX 104, LEYTONSTONE, LONDON E11 1ND. All telephone bids must be confirmed in writing. Email bids will be accepted but are only valid once we have sent an acknowledgement. We bear no responsibility for emails not being received, or indeed for the late arrival of any bids. If bidding by email or phone, please quote the lot number and brief description with your maximum bid.
The first price in the catalogue is the reserve; bids will be refused below this. The second price is an estimate but you may need to bid higher to secure a lot. Bidding is in increments of £1. Bids will be reduced to 10% above the next highest bid (rounded up to the nearest pound).
Example 1. Lot reserved at £30 has 3 bids A. £25 B. £50 C. £35. Bidder B is successful at £39 and we ignore bid A which is below the reserve and starting price.
Example 2. Lot reserved at £100, you bid £200 but are the only bidder so you buy it at £100 (the reserve and first price in the catalogue).
Postage: is added to orders at cost per package. and goods sent by registered insured mail where possible (minimum £5), or by recorded mail if under £30 inland (£1.50 minimum). Lots for overseas bidders are sent insured, or by parcel post (minimum £5). Certain destinations do not have an insured service. Tokens can be sent at the bidder's risk to any destination but postage will be charged at cost.
Payment: Payment is due on receipt of our invoice in cash, or by cheque or by card, and goods are sent out when we receive payment.
Payments from abroad should be in pounds sterling cheque/draft drawn on a UK bank or direct to our bank account. We accept US dollars and euros; please indicate on your bid-sheet if you want to be invoiced in US or euros funds (note: Bids must be in GBP £ sterling). We accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) and Maestro/Visa debit cards for payment. PayPal is also accepted with 2% surcharge for their fees (which are higher than the rest). If you wish to pay by this method please put your card details on the bid-sheet (card number, expiry date, issue number (Maestro only), and name and address as written on your card and statements) plus the last 3 numbers on the signature strip, and sign your bid sheet - this should be sent by post. ***Email is not secure for card data***. Successful bids can then be sent out without delay which speeds up transactions to the advantage of all.
Photographs: We will be gradually placing images on our web site of a number of the lots. However, the lots are mostly self explanatory from the descriptions as long as you've got some of the standard references. Digital photos can be emailed to you of any of the lots. Photographs are only available before the auction.
Grading & other abbreviations (English style in descending order):
UNC Uncirculated, AU or XF about or near uncirculated EF Extremely Fine, lustre (especially on older items)
VF Very Fine (normal circulated wear) nVF near or almost Very Fine gVF better than VF, VG very good, G = good
AV (aurum) gold, AR (argentum) silver, AE bronze or copper, CuNi Copper Nickel, Pb lead, Fe Iron, Alu. Aluminium. Zn = Zinc

Coin denominated tokens are in the metal of the coinage unless otherwise stated, e.g. farthing is made of copper/copper alloy
References: We use the standard reference works, associated with the various series, e.g. Burzinski, Cresswell, Copinger, Milne, Bell Supplement for Unofficial Farthings, Williamson Dalton & Hamer, Withers, BHM (British Historical Medals by Brown) etc.
However, most descriptions are in full. If in doubt, please ask.
