In general terms the medals are made of bronze, in extremely fine condition and of date contemporary with original design, unless described otherwise. de l'hygiene de l'enfant 1911, to Mr Carre, Laon. Hygeia receives
a woman with a young girl patient, with Galen in exergue. Design by Patey,

Sir Benjamin Brodie,
surgeon, Laudatory medal. 1843. Reverse, Science trimming the lamp of
life. A speculatively produced medal by William Wyon given by the surgeon's
admirers at a dinner in his honour. He was by this time President of the
Royal BHM2003 silver medal, condition only fine and scuzzy- hence a cheap
price for a heavy silver medal £75

Design by Macphail, overall EF condition SOLD Joseph Black 1723-1779, chemist and physician; his medical research into dyspepsia and bronchial problems led to his discovery of carbon dioxide. |

Hygiene Industrielle et Sociale, with examples of the toxins and opiates,
tobacco, opium, cocaine, alcohol and phosphorus, which do so much damage.Design

Association Leopold Bellan - medal. The association
promoted physical fitness as a means of improving child health and combatting
tuberculosis. Hence the athletic pose on the obverse and the importance
of cleanliness, bathing at the source, on the revers. Struck bronze £50

(WC1), 1860-1960, Heraldic interpretation of the union of England, Scotland
and Wales. Struck bronze 51mm. VF £25

Death of John Freind, 1728, Fellow of the College of
Physicians of London and of the Royal Society by F. St Urbain. Reverse
shows the old and new style of medecine working together. It alludes to
his Hisoty of Physic. As well as being physician to the Prince of Wales
and Queen Caroline, Freind was MP for Launceston too and imnprisoned for
his part in the Atterbury plot. MI.488/28, a little wear, so nEF with
original colour SOLD

Dr Hartmann of the Hopital Bichat, 1909 by Fix. Masseau, very high relief, 68mm bronze, a couple of edge knocks so VF £45 Hopital Bichat was built on the site of an old army barracks in the 18th district of Paris - it is still a public hospital as part of the group Bichat-Claude Bernard for the north of Paris. |

Dr Leon Gosselin 1815-1887 by Oscar Roty, medal
dated 7 July 1887. Gosselin was President of the Academie des Sciences,
Professor of Medecine, Surgeon in charge of the Charite hospital, Presdient
of the Society of Doctors in France. A truly impressive list of achievements
and a great little plaquette: the reverse dated 1888 shows the patient
being attended by Medecine, with reference to Gosselin's teachings on
the treatment of hernias. 42x58mm silvered bronze £75

Charles Fabry, teacher 1937. rev. youth investigating
light and energy. Fabry was a French physicist who discovered the ozone
layer in the upper atmosphere in 1913, and in optics explained the

Laryngology clinic in Lyons, France. Medal by Henri Nocq, with

Ehrlich and Hata commemorative medal by Kautsch;
they famously discovered a cure for syphilis "606" with Bertheim;
the reverse shows the struggle with this Hydra, with skull and hands,
an impression of the madness induced by this terrible disease. Eventually
they split and Hata continued his research in Japan. 65mm bronze nEF SOLD
