Dutton, Ron, Stonehenge, the famous pre-historic standing stones, with a map of the area on the reverse and Ron’s poem: Stones unencumbered by priest ritual chant stand sadly posed upon untrodden grass a monument to faded hope and spirit passed. This Fragile Earth

“Hail the medal as propaganda! … a fine example of the modern medal” was Ron Dutton’s comment (M24.111) on this tree frog, an endangered species whose survival monitors the well-being of the natural world.  An original edition Royal Mint cast, made while the jeweller was studying at the Royal College of Art 1992 73mm x 92mm Note: the Mint has since re-issued this medal.  Coll. Hamilton Finlay, Ian

Terror/Virtue

18th century France perfectly summed up by the classicism of the arts and the technical but terrible brilliance of the guillotine.  An iconic medal, and in my opinion, one of the best BAMS has ever issued.   As far as we know the first of these medals to have appeared on the market for several years. M4– BAMS issue no.15, 1983, 52.5mm Edition 43 plus a number sold by the artist. 

 This example Collection Ernest Morton acquired directly from BAMS.
