206 CITY OF LONDON SCHOOL, Shakespeare Prize (given) by BH Beaufoy 1785; bronze medal by B Wyon. Shakespeare in profile facing left on the obverse. The reverse is magnificent and depicts a variety of Shakespearean characters, including Falstaff, Prospero and Ariel. Benjamin Wyon died in 1858 so the medal would have been made probably in the 1840's. reverse a little edge knocked but rare, bronze 77mm. £140 |

217 An engraved medal for a drinking club, KENNINGTON FARRINGDON WITHOUT TO CAPT Rt. COOKE S.C. April 10th 1848. The reverse shows the City of London shield with two asses as supporters, a beer tankard and two crossed pipes as a crest and the motto VENI VIDI FUGI (I came, I saw, I fled) HONOUR THE BRAVE around. A very odd piece and redolent of the times. Silver 39mm. £225 |
