258 A collection of 85 GUILDHALL RECEPTION BADGES ranging from 1863 to 1965 in a variety of metals. £4275. The receptions were the most splendid events, honouring the Royal Family and visiting heads of state, while celebrating national jubilees and the charitable and political work of many eminent people and organisations. Most the badges have as a principal element of their design the arms of the City of London, namely the cross of St. George (upright red cross on a white background) with a dagger in the first quarter. The arms are either on the main part of the badge or on the brooch bar. Most are enamelled. The badges would have been worn either as a lapel badge, sash badge, pin or military style with a ribbon and bar. Size is of the main metal part of the badge.
