What we buy and our special subjects

Simmons Gallery is always interested in buying coins and other numismatic material for collectors to add to their collections.

We buy across the general field of numismatics - British and foreign coins, tokens and medals, oddments and accumulations as well as collections. However, we specialise in the following and are strong buyers of:

1. Coins of South East Asia and India, odd and curious money
2. Coins and tokens of North and South America and the West Indies,
3. 19th & 20th century medals, all sorts with particular emphasis on Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles,
4. Prize medals, especially any Olympic memorabilia, Football Association medals and other sports,
5. Masonic medals and 'jewels'
6. Contemporary medals (in particular studio cast medals)
7. Coin weights and scales
8. Tokens, tickets and passes

We would like to buy more hammered coins and World and European coins pre 1945. We are not keen on the bullion sets of medals produced for collectors in the 1970's nor do we deal extensively in gold and silver bullion at this time. But if you come into the gallery we'll make you an offer based on the spot gold and silver price of that day, and buy those bits of currency, British and foreign that you have accumulated.

To sell your coins and medals

In the first instance, contact us with a brief description of what you have. We can only make a conditional offer based on such a description but we can usually judge whether it's worthwhile sending the goods to us for a firm offer. The company has been trading since 1982 and we've become familiar at deciphering puzzles!

Then, if you are UK resident, send to us by registered mail at the gallery post office address: Simmons Gallery, PO Box 104, Leytonstone, London E11 1ND, UK. . If you are overseas, please, before you ship write to us with the details. We'll then advise you whether to ship it to us, and how to do so. This way we can provide the best service to you.

Our normal way of business is to make a firm offer only when we have the goods in front of us, so that we can grade the coins properly. We then send you our cheque with our offer. All you need do then if you decide to accept it is to cash the cheque (in GB pounds sterling or US dollars). If however you decide not to accept the offer, you may return the cheque within 7 days (UK) or 14 days (overseas) and we'll return your goods.
